Tarotoast’s Stuff

When I decide to try the latest Wordpress 1.6 still-do-not-use branch, I was having a little hard time getting the latest files from the source repository. Why? Because I was digging the WordPress cvs repository hosted on SourceForge.

After the kind help from Cookys, who pointed out wordpress is now using svn, and also giving me the magical command to checkout the repository:
svn co http://svn.automattic.com/wordpress/trunk/
I was finally able to get the latest version to run. Indeed, it’s the same version (at least it seems) as the one running on my Wordpress.com Blog. It’s not this blog that was updated though, it’s the new one planned for TWFamily.org members, which is here: http://blog.twfamily.org/
What is so significant about it to worth blogging? I just felt being outdated in the world of computer science. Was it wrong to choose Bioengineering as my major and leave CS as a hobby? I don’t know. I felt like I merely know what the surface of the world of CS looks like, but never being able to look under the skin. New technologies came out every second. If I want to stay on top of the knowledge chain in the world of CS, it almost guarentee to spend hours and hours of time to read various mailing lists and sites like digg.com or slashdot.com. Do I have those time? Maybe, maybe not. Do I want to spend those time doing so? Maybe, maybe not.

I do, however, want to get that already-promised-a-long-time-website up and running. What is that? Still under construction. At least now my sister is capable to help me some way, rather than doing everything myself from design to layout to coding. All and all, that is just some thoughts about not being able to catch up and look into new technologies in the world of computer science. Environment shapes people. Since I don’t get the kind of environment that requires me to update myself in those knowledge, not a big surprise.

Time to prepare the upcoming BE 110 midterm. Is it that hard to get an A?
